Student Facilities

Student Common Room
The student Common Room is situated on the second floor of the Applied Sciences building (rm 301.220) and is normally available for use by all students in the Department of Imaging and Applied Physics. After hours access to this room is also permitted for those students who have valid after hours passes (see below). Students generally use the common room as a place to eat, for social gatherings and as a collaborative work-study room. The common room may become very busy and noisy around lunch times and during exam periods, so you cannot always count on completing an assignment or studying at these times. You may even find the odd student sleeping overnight as they cram for exams.

The Common Room contains a microwave and a refrigerator for general student use. There is also an additional refrigerator from which cool drinks and food may be purchased at discount prices courtesy of the Physics Student's Social Club.

Studio and PC Lab
Students enrolled in or studying for select units as controlled by the Department of Imaging and Applied Physics may apply for access to use the Building 301 PC lab, containing 20 PC's and a laser printer.

Access to the Building 301 PC Lab can be obtained by seeing the Imaging and Applied Physics administration staff. All students are required to make use of email and the Internet as a regular part of their studies. The Building 301 PC Lab is also where many of the first year physics workshops and other computationally based classes are taught so is not always available for informal access.

Physics Labs and Physics Equipment
Apart from the Building 301 PC Lab, laboratory access is not permitted to students unless a supervisor is present. Access to equipment and laboratory facilities outside normal classes is not normally possible so it is important that students attend lab classes when they are expected to be there. Some small items of physics equipment are available for loan to students. For more information see the Senior Physics Technician, Mr Glen Lawson (room 244).

After Hours access
Students who require after-hours access to building 301 may apply for an after-hours pass. To find out if you are eligible to obtain an after-hours pass see the Imaging and Applied Physics administration staff.
